Discover a cherished family recipe passed down through generations by our co-founder, Ria. Harnessing the power of sesame seeds rich in phytoestrogens — plant compounds with a chemical structure similar to estrogen — this dish holds significant potential.

During menopause, when estrogen levels decline, the mild estrogenic effects of phytoestrogens in sesame seeds may help balance hormonal fluctuations and alleviate related symptoms.

1 person

  • 1 cup sesame seeds (white or black)
  • 1/2 cup jaggery or honey (adjust according to sweetness preference
  • 2 tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)

Step 1

Heat a pan over medium heat and add sesame seeds.

Roast the sesame seeds, stirring continuously to prevent burning. Roast until they turn golden brown and release a nutty aroma. This usually takes about 4-5 minutes. Remove from heat and let them cool.

Step 2

Once the sesame seeds have cooled down, transfer them to a grinder or food processor. Grind the sesame seeds to a coarse powder. You don't want a fine powder; a slightly coarse texture adds to the ladoo's crunchiness.

Step 3

If using jaggery, grate it. If using honey, warm it slightly.

In a pan, add ghee and jaggery (or honey). Heat it on low until the jaggery melts and forms a syrup. If using honey, mix it with the warm ghee.

Step 4

Add the ground sesame seeds to the jaggery or honey syrup. Mix well until the sesame seeds are evenly coated with the syrup. If desired, add cardamom powder for flavour.

Step 5

Allow the mixture to cool slightly, so it's comfortable to handle. Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into round ladoos using your hands. The warmth of your hands will help bind the ladoos.

Step 6

Place the sesame seed ladoos on a plate or tray to set completely at room temperature. This usually takes a couple of hours.

Once set, store them in an airtight container. Enjoy these nutritious and delicious sesame seed ladoos as a healthy snack during menopause or any time you desire a sweet treat.

Note: Adjust the sweetness according to your preference, and feel free to customise by adding chopped nuts or seeds for extra crunch.
